Bamsar Band Story

Bamsar Band is an intercultural music ensemble founded in 2015 by Balochi Suroz player Bamsar Dezhkameh and ney player and vocalist Sougol Khojasteh. With a research-based and performance-driven approach, Bamsar Band reinterprets the oral musical traditions of Balochistan, inspired by Persian classical music and in dialogue with diverse cultural and musical contexts of other nations, adapting to the needs of each project while remaining faithful to their cultural authenticity. The group’s work can be understood as a space for intercultural connection. This ensemble has performed at various festivals, theatres, universities, and cultural institutions across Iran and Europe.

Biography

The musicians

Sougol Khojasteh is an Iranian Ney (traditional Persian flute) player, vocalist, and artistic creator dedicated to building bridges between Persian classical music, Balochi musical traditions, and contemporary intercultural practices.

Bamsar Dezhkameh is a Balochi Suroz player, researcher, and artistic creator dedicated to preserving, researching, and reimagining the musical traditions of Balochestan.
